FLOODLIT DREAMS and Women in Football are delighted to announce a partnership to publish a new anthology of women’s football writing.

The book will comprise 20 pieces from female writers, with 10 being commissioned from established names and the other 10 via invited submissions. Publication will be in the Autumn of 2021.

“We enjoyed a successful collaboration with WiF in 2019 on the Vikki Orvice Book Prize, which resulted in the publication of Susie Petruccelli’s Raised A Warrior, and received some remarkable entries,” said Floodlit Dreams founder Ian Ridley.

“It was a pity that more of them could not be published but it showed the talent out there. Some of those entries might even make chapters for this book if those people want to submit again.

“It certainly gave us the idea at Floodlit Dreams for a collection by women writers, who have hitherto not had enough opportunities to get published. We hope this book will go a little way to righting that wrong.”

Jane Purdon, CEO of Women in Football, added: “We would like to thank Ian and Floodlit Dreams for offering a unique opportunity to tap into a huge pool of talented female writers who may otherwise never get the chance to see their work in print.

“We saw with the publication of Susie Petruccelli’s Raised A Warrior that there is a demand for well-written sports books by women. To be working with Ian and Floodlit Dreams once again to ensure women’s voices are heard is most welcome. This is an exciting project and we are delighted to be involved.”

Submissions are now invited from United Kingdom-based writers only and should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words. They can be on any subject, across both women’s and men’s football, and should be sent to info@floodlitdreams.com by March 30th, 2021.

An editorial panel drawn from Floodlit Dreams and WiF will select the 10 successful pieces. There will be a fee of £400 for each chosen piece, with the authors also receiving an equal royalty share of any profits the book may make.
